Dan began his career in the mid 90s, working for Factory Records owned Suite 16 studios in North Manchester. Formally Cargo Studios; this was the place Martin Hannett called home, and indeed Joy Divisions’s landmark record Atmosphere was produced here. Still a teenager, Dan was taken under the wing of Hannett’s engineer; Chris Nagle and taught many weird and wonderful ways to approach sound recording.
In 2000, he relocated to London to begin work at Strongroom Studios in Shoreditch, East London. Here he joined a team of in-house engineer/producers working at this legendary studio. With its ubiquitous Jamie Reid wall art and fiercely independent attitude, Strongroom evoked something in all who worked there. It was, and still is, a hub of innovation in music.
Simultaneously, he began studying for a Masters in Audio and Music Production. The course led him to explore new mediums; composing abstract music with sound itself as the material. He gained a distinction, and a deeper interest in experimentation with sound.

In 2009 he was nominated as best newcomer in the Music Producer Guild awards.
In 2006, Dan became freelance. Over the following years, he developed a strong reputation, establishing an ongoing creative partnership with many artists and labels. He spent months travelling between the UK and Paris, living and working with legendary Bristolian trip-hop producer Tricky, on multiple sessions that became his acclaimed 2010 album, Mixed Race.
In 2009 he was nominated as best newcomer in the Music Producer Guild awards for his work with electronic act Delphic.
Since 2012, Dan has held the post of Electronic Music Studio Manager at the Faculty of Music, University of Oxford. During this time, he has exponentially developed the electronic music composition and recording programme from almost no syllabus to the healthy state it is in today. See teaching and research for more information.
